Arctic Monkeys
This northern indie band hit the music scene in 2002 and became one of the first bands to build up a fan base through online word of mouth. In 2006 they released their first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, which is still the fastest-selling debut album in British chart history and was named by NME magazine as the fifth-best British album of all time.
The four-strong band consists of Alex Turner (vocals, guitar), Jamie Cook (guitar), Nick O'Malley (bass), and Matt Helders (drums, vocals). Known for their quirky lyrics, the band have won multiple awards and honours, including five Brit Awards and 12 NME Awards. Their latest album, ‘Suck It and See’, was released in June 2011.
